I had the pleasure of visiting Blue Crab Coffee in St. Michaels several times over the past several summers while cruising the Chespapeake. It's a very convivial and welcoming place in the beautiful town of St. Michaels. it's clearly a locals favorite, but very good for visitors as well. They have a great array of breakfast pastries and other goodies, and their coffee is very good. All in all, a great experience. If you're lucky enough to visit St. Michaels, walk over to Blue Crab Coffee!

Small almond milk latte was $5. DC prices. Bad type of almond milk, tastes burned: this brings rating down automatically to 0. Atmosphere tries but fails: wooden floor, photos on the walls but loud whirring buzzing machines in the back with bad music on the stereo. Tie-dye server nice, but not cheerful by any means, and pretty fast (but I was the only one in line). Cups have styrofoam covering, no brand, the type you get in business meetings when you're desperate for caffeine. Treats suck, nothing beyond typical muffins and cinnamon rolls. Don't bother coming here unless you're dying for a fix.

How I heard of this place: Our trip to St. Michaels was an experience of firsts initiated by our dear friends and travel buddies from Arlington. This quaint, creamy coffee shop is no different. Type of cuisine: "Blue Crab Coffee Company invites you to enjoy a cozy coffee house environment in beautiful St. Michaels, Maryland. Located in the historic Freedom's Friend Lodge, Blue Crab Coffee offers great coffees, specialty drinks, baked goods and other delicious fare, as well as a variety of teas, whole bean and ground coffee selections." Ambiance: Inside the big, yellow house behind the Acme building and adjacent to the St. Michaels Police Department house (complete with porch!), is the Blue Crab Coffee Co. one immediately takes a deep breath, taking in the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans. The hardwood floors lead down a narrow hallway interspersed with shelving holding large, glass jars of various coffee beans, and loose-leaf teas. The hallway opens into a room; to the left the cash register and barista haven, to the right, large, wooden tables with wooden, pew seating against the wall, and hard chairs open to the walkway, leading back towards the more intimate mini-tables and chairs at the back of the long, rectangular establishment. One lone television set, a parchment sail and seafaring photographs and Celebrate St. Michaels artwork make the decor. What I ordered: A large latte ($4) for one, and a small Oregon Chai ($3.75) for the other, sharing a Banana Blueberry Muffin ($2.75); and a Caramello ($4.25) enjoyed by my husband and I, a side of Lemon Muffin with Lemon Icing ($2.75) with which to wash it down. What I loved: The Caramello - a caramel latte with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce. The flaky yet moist Lemon Muffin the perfect combination of sweet and tart. Why I loved it: The Blue Crab Coffee Co. is a very cozy coffee house with an abundance of seating options - for those on a date, in a small discussion group or enjoying a cuppa joe to go! The friendly staff, and smiling patrons only add like upon like for this delightful coffee shop. Cost: Average ($3.50 - $4.25 per steamed milk beverage)

Very good coffee, rich and full flavored. The sitting area is very large and there are lots of different sized tables. Parking is easy too. I always like small, one of a kind coffee shops, and when the coffee beats Starbucks (not real hard to do) that's even better. Service, however, was very slow. There was one couple in front of us, and it took quite a while.

While walking around downtown St. Michaels and my husband saw this coffee shop from the main street so we walked back so he could grab a drink. He ordered a medium coffee and the price was $2.43. After seeing that, I shouldn't have done what I did next, but I couldn't help myself and I ordered a small caramel apple cider. Our total was now $6.43. My very small drink was $4. My husband's medium coffee was $2.43. And he had to get it himself. We would have been better off getting drinks from a Wawa if there was one around. It seemed like a nice enough place, but the drinks just did not seem worth the price. Oh well, lesson learned for next time.

We've been pretty loyal out-of-town customers for the past few years, but this month's visit had me looking at other coffee options. Lukewarm service, hastily microwaved eggs, unremarkable self-serve coffee.... Such a cute name and a great location, but I think I'm moving on.

I second Mos D in the star rating breakdown. The self service coffee was expensive and not good. I expected more for a place that is suppose to be a place focused around coffee. The quality was more along the lines of a store or slightly better gas station variety. When I mentioned that we were going to stay and have our coffee I expected to drink from a real mug but instead was handed a foam to go cup as the only option. The muffin was certainly not homemade either. The place has a lot of potential and the atmosphere was nice but the coffee and food did not represent.

Nothing about this place is terrible, but if it were in any other town it would be 1 star. Service was friendly but SLOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWW. We stopped in on a Saturday morning and there was only 1 employee. The self serve coffee (an idea I hate) had an empty air pot, people were ordering food, and I ordered a latte. It took over 10 minutes to get the latte by the time she made the food, brewed another airpot, and got to work on my latte. To make things worse, the prices are insane. Over $4 for a double shot, 16oz latte? Is this New York? Most everywhere in the country is about $4 for a triple shot 20oz... And you would think the latte was good, which it wasn't bad, but it had no distinct flavor and I'd guess only had 1 pump of syrup. Atmosphere is cool though, customers were super friendly, and they have a great local feel. Just don't expect fantastic coffee in a decent amount of time if they only have 1 staff member.

Blue Crab coffee is extremely cute and has great sandwiches. However, their coffee is a 3-4 star. Still, Blue Crab is in town and it's a great place to meet with friends. Parking is on the side of the building in a lot, or on the street. This shop appears to have a number of daily specials that are hand made by the owners. This is worth noting because they are REALLY GOOD!! 5/5 stars!!! However, if you don't happen upon one of these delicious treats you will be subject to mass produced baked goods that are good, but not great.

Awesome bagels, friendly open space, tasty coffee! Scones are delicious.... not too dry. We are regulars and will continue to be so!

Cute place. Friendly staff but perhaps a bit lacking in knowledge of coffee. Ordered an ice coffee that didn't taste like coffee, or anything really. It was either watered down or brewed improperly (or both!) and when I questioned how it was brewed, the server told me that everyone else had been saying it was tasting weird too. I think they should probably fix that problem then! Pretty expensive to boot!!!! Would not recommend the iced coffee at least...

A cool little place to get a snack and relax after wandering around St Michael's (Clean bathrooms also)

This place is a great coffee house and the anti-Starbucks. Sure they sever a lot of espresso drinks, frappes, etc. but they are true coffee drinks and not flavored coffee concoctions that Starbucks has. The place has nice ambiance without over doing it. Yes, they have souvenir coffee mugs and the like but it's really a nice place just to relax with a cup of joe or a latte after walking the streets of Saint Michaels and a day of shopping.

We came here a couple of times while in the area. As someone mentioned earlier, expensive self serve coffee sort of sucks. Didn't eat anything, the place is cute, coffee was just ok, and was expensive, staff was nice enough but not amazing. Overall just an ok experience, I would go somewhere else if there was anouth place in town you could walk to.

Coffee was average... would try another local coffee shop when in town again.

This review is for the place rather than the coffee. Sadly, I'm not drinking coffee right now so I can't speak to that. I got a perfectly nice iced tea and was glad to find this spot for the ambiance and free wi-fi. Had some work to do on a recent trip to St. Michael's and was able to sit here and get a lot done.

Great place to stop by for coffee and a egg sandwich. Cute place. Coffee is 3-4 stars depending what you get.

Just stopped in for a quick coffee and plan our day in St. Michaels. My boyfriend and I split "the Carmello" it was very tasty. Atmosphere was laid back and staff was personable!

They have soy milk :) and cold brew. Good cold brew. Good enough for me! Fast and friendly service as well.

Great coffee in a fun atmosphere. The service is a little slow, but the wait is worth it. Easily the best coffee in the area.

Bright and early in a sleepy town it's the only place to get a nice cup of espresso. Very nice people too. I give it 5 stars because of it's singular existence and being open in time for sailors to get going early.

Hot chocolate is serious business. I hear they do coffee and tea as well. A bit off the track, one street back from the shopping district, but well worth the side trip for a sit-down.

Best Place to grab freshly brewed cup-o-joe and check your e-mail. Housed in a two story yellow frame building, (a big historic 'lodge') the coffee shop offers a 'clean, well lit place', kind've like an old country store. Located behind the Acme Supermarket, just off the 'main drag'. Great cookies and snacks.

This quaint local coffee place is perfect for a lazy weekend. We grabbed some breakfast sandwiches which my companion described as excellent. The pumpkin latte was delicious. This is located behind the main grocery store if you have trouble finding it.
